Should I Attend Prestige Conference?

A friend of mine asked me a good question after I inquired if she was going to attend Prestige Conference: “Should I? I don’t own a business.”
While it is true that Prestige is, at its core, a business conference, it’s a mistake to think the speakers and sessions will only be of benefit to entrepreneurs and business executives.
Managing Your Career
Our focus is “Managing Your WordPress Business and Career.” We made sure to include “career” because everyone who doesn’t run a business is still in the business of being an employee, and managing your career is just as hard, if not harder, than managing a business.
Side Work and Freelancing
Do you do work on the side to earn some extra money and learn new skills (or do you want to)? Prestige Conference speakers have been on both sides of this relationship and can help you navigate the crazy world of freelance design and software development.
Be a More Valuable Employee
Let’s be honest. Most of us are designers, developers, content creators, marketers, etc. We’re not business-people. When I was younger, I made the assumption business affairs are not my responsibility, and I absolutely hated the business side of work. I wanted to stay as far away from spreadsheets, P&L statements, hiring/firing, and management as possible. I was young and naive.
When I started in management, it became very apparent to me the designers, developers, and content strategists that understood (at least) the basics of business were FAR more valuable employees. I now consider business understanding and skills on par with design or coding skills in the hiring process.
Grow
So to re-ask the initial question… Should you attend Prestige? It’s for anyone that needs to be better at managing a business or a career.
A better way to say it is this: Prestige Conference is for anyone who manages or is managed, who runs a business or works for one.
